Time Flies

When you're busy, doesn't it? Not much new to report other than the whole "we're having a BABY" news :) The weather this summer is ridiculous, lots of rain, meaning CO is beautiful and green and eternally full of ALLERGENS. Leaving those of us who suffer from allergies rather uncomfortable . . . especially since I can't take anything. It's mainly annoying, the sniffling, sneezing, congestion that has become daily life. That's ok, its getting hotter so the plans have to stop blooming, right?

4th of July was uneventful. Spent all day just relaxing, then went and stood on a hill to watch a whole bunch of fireworks spread out across the whole area. That was fun, though B was sad we weren't close enough to feel the explosions. Wasn't a problem for me, I don't like noise/music loud enough that it shakes me bodily.

B's sad about MJ's death, I'm indifferent, and we're both sick of it taking up 98% of the news. C'mon already!

My grandfather passed away last week. It was after a long, slow decline so it was no unexpected. The last decade or so he had increasingly bad Alzheimer's, in fact B never knew him before he wasn't himself any more. At least I have good memories from childhood when he was healthy and all there. The funeral is this weekend which I couldn't make it back for (unavoidable work conflict). I'm more sad for my Mom, because he was her Dad. He was my last living Grandparent, meanwhile B is lucky enough to still have THREE around, and he even knew his Great grandparents for a while.

Anyhow, we're off for the weekend, me to work, B to enjoy his time. Have yourself a nice one!

Visitors! Part 2 - Photos

Always excited to have visitors, we wanted to give them a taste of what Colorado has to offer, in only a few days. So the 1st day I went to Pikes Peak and took the Cog Rail with Andy & Tracy, a sweet engineer couple from WI :) They were a little concerned about the reports of snow on top . . .
Look, we're above the clouds! This was on July 10th. I've never seen so much snow up there! I think going up in the winter would be really fun, imagine how crazy it would be completely buried in snow! That evening Chip and Jerry arrived from the opposite coasts, and the next morning we took off on our adventure. After a tour at B's work (SO COOL! but no pictures allowed) we went to Idaho Springs and ate at Beau Jo's . . . mmmmm, Colorado style pizza . .
By this point we'd had sun, rain, and sun again. Very normal for CO :) After lunch we drove a scenic byway up to Estes Park. We all fit into a rented Tahoe, which was gigantic! It was a lot of fun. Here we are at a random pull off, where Andy almost drove us off a cliff, just to get us girls to scream!
We stopped at this pretty lake, but it was super windy and cold, so didn't stay long.
The place was overrun with friendly chipmunks, they came right up, expecting to be fed!
We spent the night in Estes, and had a nice time walking around the town. Here's Chip sketching, he's a graphic designer and great artist, he drew our wedding invites all those years ago!
The guys found this water wheel sitting motionless, so they took it upon themselves to get it back in motion . . . so silly!
Here they are, the captains themselves!
Here's a morning view from our hotel.
Pictures after breakfast. It was so clear and lovely!
Estes has this little gondola thing that we tried out, it seemed pretty rickety but we made it.
B and I at the top. The views were great, and we hiked up to the top.
Again, the place was overrun with begging chipmunks! Craziness.I like to call this "Men on a Mountain" :)
On our way home from Estes we stopped and stocked up at what I like to call the Church 'o Booze :) When it was being built B and I were sure it was a church, but nope, it turned out to be a liquor store. A gigantic, humongous liquor store!
That night we had a fun dinner where our college friends got to meet our local friends. Much fun, but no pictures! The next day we went to the Ren Faire, which I always enjoy. Tracy got right in the spirit, getting a beautiful floral tiara! :)
We watched some shows, including this guy who was new this year. VERY funny! He never spoke, but just through his actions was incredibly sarcastic, obnoxious and funny. I'll definitely watch his show again.
Chip and Jerry found the stocks at lunch time. A nearby vendor helped us outfit Chip properly with the flowery tiara!

Last but not least, here I am! I got a tiara also, with dried flowers and feathers (and plans to wear it for years to come). Here I am showing off my newly painted henna. I asked the lady for stars, moons and some kind of goddess design. I love how it turned out! Of course the guys' reactions were, look, you have a naked lady on your arm! Jeez . . . I really like my henna, even if it is already fading. Some how the last week there just has not been enough time to take care of it like I should . . . that's ok, I'm thinking of returning to the Ren Fair later this summer with Liz, because why not?!Next up, photos from RIDE THE ROCKIES! I'll try to get to it later today or tomorrow, no promises! Happy Friday!

Visitors! Part 1 - Videos

Last week four of our college friends came to visit :) We had a ton of fun, and took these videos specifically for one friend who couldn't be there! We missed you April! Hope to see you soon :)

Camping Fun

Last weekend we went camping. The original plan was for two nights but due to darkening skies, wind, thunder and much too close to us lightening, we packed it up the second night and went home. Which was good because the next two days were full of rain and thunder storms! Yikes! Still, we had a fabulous time with Liz and my Dad. I took a couple videos, enjoy the silliness!

1st, a survey of the campsite -

2nd, B proving his manliness :)

Boulder Fest

Memorial Day weekend Ben and I went up to Boulder and checked out the Boulder Festival for the first time with Liz :) But first, our newest landscaping! And you can see the two pots of tomatoes, they are doing pretty well!
Here is me, Liz and her roomie at the fair. We had a grand time, and we got there as it opened, so by the time we were through, around noon, there were WAY too many people and we were ready to go :)
Cool owl on display, not sure why, but sure, why not!?
Odd Boulderites by the creek "_
There was a booth showing off violins they made, I got to try a purple one, it was pretty funny :)
We saw SO MANY cute dogs. SO MANY! Sigh. I want a dog, or two . . . :)

Summer

I love this time of year. Early summer when it isn't yet blisteringly hot (not that it really ever gets that bad here in CO!) but its nice and warm in the sun and you can smell the flowers blooming and the cut grass and there is a lovely breeze. Just a wonderful time of year :)

I do love that the days are longer, though it's about this time that I curse my paternal heritage of being attached to the sunlight. It makes sleeping in extremely difficult, so I've been trying to get to bed earlier. Case in point, last night, when I was in bed at 9:15. Woke up this morning at 6:20, got up for a few minutes then went back to bed because apparently 9 hours of sleep wasn't quite enough . . . jeez! I did drag myself out of bed at 7:32, just enough time to change, eat something, and get to my 8 am yoga class. I do like yoga, and I really like the instructor. The pacing, what she says, the poses, it all just works for me, which is nice.

I can't believe we're only a week away from Memorial Day weekend, it seems way too early for that to be happening! Then it really is officially summer, the pools open, the weather gets hotter, students stumble into lessons after a day in the sunlight, exhausted and worn out from all the fun they are having out of school :) I feel bad that they are all so EXCITED to get out of school, I always liked school, but then again, I was a classic little nerd :) And the summers for me weren't spent lazing around playing with friends, since I was 9 years old I spent my summers at various music camps around the country, so it was just another kind of school, but during the summer. It was only after I graduated for the last time, moved to CO, and was an actual working adult, that I had a summer kind of "off," and even then, I was teaching and gigging throughout the summer.

We're about three weeks away from our first possible camping weekend for the summer, and I can't wait :) I'm hoping we get to go camping a few times, since we bought that lovely tent last summer and I still haven't slept in it! And no, I'm not going to go sleep in the backyard just to sleep in the tent, that would be more than a little ridiculous and silly. Backyard camping is more for when you're 10 years old, not when you're nearing your third decade of existence :)

Weekend Wrapup

This weekend was FULL of movies! Saturday we went to the 10 AM showing of Star Trek, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I am a big fan of Chris Pine, I've seen several of his other movies, most of which have been on the small side, so I am excited that he is starring is a big movie and will have more opportunities to make big movies!

Saturday night we went out for dinner and have great mexican food, followed by ice cream, followed by BOWLING, which, for B, is pretty much the best night ever :) I swear he should join a league, he loves going bowling but almost never goes!

Then on Sunday, in between church gigs for me, we went and saw Wolverine. Again, we both thought it was a lot of fun, and had a nice time. Plus, at random moments over the weekend, we'd have "Oaklahoma" on in the background while we were cooking or whatever. It is a newer version with Hugh Jackman made by PBS, I believe. While it was entertaining, it wasn't as satisfying as watching the original, which I grew up with :) Plus I never before realized how kinda creepy the story is . . . hmmm . . . the things you don't notice as a kid, I guess!

B planted some new flowers in the front yard, and is working on fixing up the sprinkler system, a time consuming and really dirty job. But, he's almost halfway through, so not much more to go! I'll put up a picture once I have a chance to take one. K, time for Monday! Bye!
